For forty-one years, the bells of Marlow Abbey did not ring. The great bronze bell of 1748 — cracked in the storm of 1984 — could only groan, and the tower masonry was shedding its face.
The restoration paired old and new without apology: laser scanning mapped the crack, bell founders recast the sound bow in the traditional pit, and masons repointed the tower in hot-mixed lime. On the first Sunday of October, all six bells rang out over the valley — the first full peal since 1984.
