Community & Identity
We unite people who value their roots — artists, historians, volunteers, and all who cherish the past.
The Service
Heritage is a team sport.
No restoration succeeds without the people who love the place. Our community team recruits, trains, and celebrates more than 3,500 volunteers — from teenage dig assistants to retired stonemasons passing on a lifetime of skill.
Membership means belonging: site visits, craft circles, archive evenings, and a vote on which threatened places we take on next.
Ways to belong
Volunteer
Join digs, conservation cleans, guiding rotas, and gardening teams. No experience needed — training is part of the fun.
Learn a craft
Summer schools in masonry, joinery, plasterwork, and archival skills, taught by masters on live restoration sites.
Support
Memberships and donations fund the unglamorous essentials: scaffolding, lime, insurance, and tea for volunteers.
Member Voices
Volunteering on the Riverside Gardens dig taught me more about my city in one summer than a lifetime of walking past it.
